Lifespan’s Sickle Cell Initiative: A Production with Deft Film

At Deft Film, we are passionate about telling stories that matter, and our recent work with Lifespan and their Comprehensive Sickle Cell Program was a perfect example of this mission. Lifespan’s initiative aimed to improve care for patients with sickle cell disease—an illness that has historically been underfunded and understudied. We were honored to play a part in this effort by providing the video production services for their pitch to the Papitto Opportunity Connection (POC), which focused on highlighting the critical need for better treatment and research in the field.

The Production

Our role in this project was to create a compelling visual narrative, capturing the real stories of individuals who have been impacted by sickle cell disease. With a fast-paced, run-and-gun production style, we conducted interviews and filmed on location, working closely with patients and healthcare professionals to showcase the human side of this vital initiative.

The goal was to create an authentic, emotional appeal that would resonate with POC and demonstrate the urgent need for innovative solutions in sickle cell care. We focused on crafting a video that brought these experiences to life, ensuring that the voices of those affected were front and center.

The Outcome

After presenting the pitch, Lifespan’s Comprehensive Sickle Cell Program secured its first $1 million innovation grant from POC. This grant will help Lifespan continue its important work in improving care and treatment for sickle cell patients across the region.

While we were a small part of Lifespan’s overall proposal, we are proud to have contributed to a project with such a meaningful impact. Our production helped amplify the message of this initiative, shedding light on the critical needs of the sickle cell community.
